Great Uncle Charles
"Charley" Engrisch was born 4 Sep 1912 in Atlanta, Georgia. Uncle
Charley was a character, traveled by foot or rode the local bus. He
always had a shopping bag in his hand. He collected wind up toys and
trinkets. Sometimes I would go down into the cellar and look around at
all his things stacked on shelves. The cellar was cold and musty and
at times the smell of alcohol was in the air, where apparently Charley would
drink. The old time wringer washing machine was down there also.
Uncle Charley was a jack of all trades and a master at none. While in
the Army in Germany he met a woman he fell in love and wanted to bring her
home to America and get married, but his sister Lizzie didn't approve. Apparently Charley never got over her because he never did marry. But Charley made some very good friends along the way, one being Mrs. Garr,
the sister to Truett Cathy the owner of Chic-fl-la. As a surprise, we
invited Mrs. Garr to our last family reunion Feb 2000, Charley was very
happy to see her as she was him. Charlie died a few months later
3 Jun 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia. [Jody]
