Elisabeth  Marmon Ingrisch

Our Great Grandmother

Born 21 Aug 1873  Mehala, Temeswar, Hungary
[now a suburb of Timisoara, Romania]

Her parents were
Joannes Marmon and Catherina Bohn

Elisabeth married Martin Ingrisch
on 6 Nov 1892, Carani / Mercydorf, Hungary

Story is, their marriage was arranged.

Elisabeth died a young woman

28 Feb 1918 Atlanta, Fulton Co., Ga.
Buried at Hollywood Cemetery, Atlanta, Ga.

Back in Mehala, Hungary

I received from this photos from a new found cousin Axente.  It was among his family photos brought from Romania.  This is the earliest known photo of Elisabeth & the children. From the left... Katie was about 13, Uncle John in next to the oldest, about 12.  Notice John and Martin 7 wore similar outfits, while young Anton, 18 months old, wore a dress, typical for that period.  Elizabeth 3 holds a hoola hoop??  I didn't know they existed back then.

From Mehala to America

Elisabeth & children Katharine 14, John 13, Martin 7, Elizabeth 3, Anton 18 mo's immigrated to America 12 July 1907 to join  Martin.  Martin came to America 14 May1906.

Traveling with Martin was Elisabeth's brother Anton Marmon's wife, Suzanne Marmon & her baby Marie.  Baby Marie died soon after arriving.  There is no info known about Susanne, except on her death certificate it states her father as Mihaly Kedro/Hedro? The spelling is not clear.

Martin was joining his brother-in-law Michael Schick in Atlanta.  I am still searching for this person.  On Anton Marmon's manifest, it stated he too was joining 'brother in law - Michael Schick' in Atlanta.'  I located a passenger record for Alexander Schick, who joined his brother Michael Schick in Atlanta.  I have yet to located these two men or learn anything of there connect to the Ingrisch or Marmon families. **Update 2009: I have solved the Schick mystery and located descendants.

Katie, shy of 2 months of being 14 immigrated 12 July 1907 with her mother Elizabeth and siblings John 13, Martin 7, Elizabeth 3, Anton 18 mo's.  They joined father Martin in Atlanta, Georgia where he had settled the year before when he immigrated.

Coming to America

taken in the US circa 1917,
Katie in back

Two more children were born in the US.   The above group photo was made circa 1917,  Elisabeth was pregnant with Margaret.  A year & a half later, my Great Grandmother Elisabeth died.  Story I heard was she was hit in the stomach by a washing machine crank, then cancer was discovered.
