John Lee Ingrisch
b. 16 Dec 1894 in
Mercydorf, Temes Co., Austria-Hungary
Parents:
Marton
Ingrisch & Elizabeth Marmon
Great Uncle John Lee
Ingrisch / Engrisch was born 16 Dec 1894 in Hungary. Uncle John
was a classy man, who always dressed nice and carried himself in a way that
said I know where I am going. He had a successful career and he was a
very kind and generous man. I remember he always had Hershey candy
bars and handed them out to us kids. During my childhood and
visits to Brookhaven Uncle John was usually not there, as he lived in and
around Sarasota Florida working. I recall a summer my family
visited him in Florida, we had such a great time. Uncle John's first wife was
Renee Smith who died
while giving birth to their child, who
also died. Uncle John died 19 Jun 1974 at 1352 Dresden Dr.,
Brookhaven, Ga., Dekalb County. He is buried along side his first wife Renee at Cool Springs
Cemetery, DeKalb County, GA. More about Renee below. [Jody]

Renee Smith Engrisch - 1st wife of John Engrisch
Written by Jody McKim 27 Aug 2002 Since this date, I have researched and located additional information which has
not been added.
I have just begun my search for my Uncle John Engrisch's first wife Renea/Renee
Smith. She was born around 1903 in Ga. She died 1921 during childbirth. Our
family never knew her relations. My goal is to find her family and to obtain a
picture of her.
This is the info I have learned in the last week, pretty good I feel considering
all I had was her name "Renee Engrisch" and death date 1921. That's all. I
didn't even know her maiden name Smith until I received her obituary. I sent off
for her death certificate via online "vital-check" got it in 3 days. It provided
more info.
Last night I located her parents and children on the 1920 Fed Census in Atlanta.
Unfortunately on all documents it only has the father as "W.W." and the mother
as "J.L." - I thought I would pass the info I have to you - just in case there
is a connection or in your travels you may read something of interest. I am also
looking for the Cool Springs cemetery where Renee/Rene is buried. Below is the
info I have gathered thus far for her and her family:
Death Certificate Info: Fulton County, Atlanta, Grady Hospital Mrs. Renee Engrisch – death date: 27 Sep 1921 Residence: 615 Hill St, Atlanta Birth, Oct ?? – age at death: 18 Birth Place: Georgia Informant: W.W. Smith – 615 Hill St., Atlanta Undertaker: Harry G. Poole – Atlanta Place of Burial: Cool Springs Cemetery 29 Sep 1921
Obituary: Mrs. Renee Engrisch, 18, of 615 Hill Street, Atlanta, died Tuesday at a private hospital. She is survived by her husband John L. Engrisch. Her parents, Mr. & Mrs. W. W. Smith; 5 brothers, M. M.; James W.; Charles. A.; Robert H. and Robert Ernest Smith; 2 sisters, Misses Ruth and Bertha Smith, and her grandmother Mrs. James Hughes.
My Mother says the cemetery is located on or off of Bouldercrest Rd, thinks in
DeKalb County. It is on a dirt road and through the woods. Mom also mentioned
Edna Smith who married a Rivers also has family buried there. Was not sure if
Renee was related to those Smith’s or not. I have been unable to locate any info
on the net for this cemetery. And looking for these Smiths is almost impossible.
1920 Fed Census - Atlanta: W.W. Smith in the census and I can't believe I located the family: Fulton - Atlanta - ED: 75 - 3rd ward 615 Hill Street W.W. Smith (head) age 47 he & his parents born in Ga. worked as a Foreman at a Bank, looks like First Bank? J.L. Smith (wife) age 46 she was born in Ga.-parents England Ruth age 19 - single -worked at Candy Co Renae age 17 - single -worked at Candy Co Charles age 15 - single -worked in Retail grocery Ernest age 13 Robert age 9 Bertha age 5 The other 2 son's were not listed "M.M. & J. W. Smith" So I continued looking..... I can't believe what else I found..... you see Renea/Renee
is my Uncle John Engrisch's first wife who died during childbirth. I have been
able to locate all the rest of John's family in the census, but not him. Well,
while looking for these other 2 brother's I found a "James W. Smith" in ED: 77 -
I thought that sounds about right. I pulled it up.
James W. Smith age 22 born in Ga, machinist Wife listed as Olivia age 22 born in Ga, but her parents were born in England.
Hey they lived at " 610 Hill St" !!
It was hard to be sure because James Smith is a common name. But when I looked
at who else lived in the household, I thought I would drop over.....It was John
Engrisch age 25, a German cabinet maker. I am so excited I finally found him in
the census. The page is torn just under his name and perhaps that is why he is
not listed.
Anyway getting back to the Smiths... I have not yet located the M.M. Smith but I
feel I will. Anyone with info or relations the the above mentioned Smith's in
the 1920 census, please contact me. I would love to hear from you. Anyone with
help on locating this family will be a blessing.
Someone sent me this info: Hill St. is near the Atlanta Zoo and Turner Field. It is also not too far from
Grady. I looked on the street map and the only cemetery (it's next to a church)
near Bouldercrest is on Old Jones Rd, a short dead end street near the DeKalb/Henry
Co. line. Do you have access to Franklin Garrett's grave survey? It should be
easy to find her there.
