Elizabeth Binjung Frisch

by Jody McKim & consultation with Karen Unterweger & a special
thank you to Noelle Giesse for her assistance in locating various
records and taking cemetery photos for us.

Elizabeth is the sister of Magdalena Binjung.

ID Spa Card for Elisabeth Binjung - 1921: In the year 1921 Elisabeth Binjung was in "Health Spa Margaret-Island"

This ID is a season ticket for "Szent Margit Gyógyfürdő (gyógyfürdö = Health Spa)"
on "Szent Margitsziget" (sziget = Island)  in the river Danube between Buda and Pest. (http://www.danubiushotels.com/en/budapest-hotels/danubius-thermal-hotel-margitsziget-budapest)
Seems, it was already at that time an absolutely good health spa, because the ticket was kept such a long time *g*.

BINJUNG name appears in the Banatian villages Sackelhausen, St.Hubert, Georgshausen, Stefansfeld. The first BINJUNG (born 1728) came 1768 from Silwingen, near Merzig "aus dem Trierischen."

His name was written PINION and 1768 he first went to Sackelhausen. Other spellings I found where PINJUNG, PIGNON, BERJUNG, PINJO,  BINJONG.
[info from Witta Roswitha Egert /
Kathreinfeld]

The FB Stefansfeld says, the family Binjung came from Silwingen. That's now a part of the German town MERZIG in Saarland, near Lorraine. Formerly it belongs sometimes to Lorraine, sometimes to "Kurfürtentum Trier" and from 1778 until 1815 to France.

The origin spelling PINION or PIGNON sounds French and I believe, after the war 1618-1648 the family came (like many others in this region) from Lorraine or France as new settlers to the nearly total destroied village Silwingen. One can still find the name PIGNON today in the phone book of Merzig.

1930 Census Elisa Frisch age 44 (b. 1886) shows up in the US Census with Charles Frisch age 51 (b 1879), on 851 (1st floor) 18th Ave, Queens, NYC - 3rd assembly.   They were married for 10 years, she was 29 when they got married and Charles was 36.  Charles immigrated from Hungary in 1907 and she immigrated from Romania 1906.  For his occupation he listed a grocery business, owned the house where they lived - value $10,000 (not bad) for 1930.  Appears he rented out apartment to Albert Wittling age 43, wife Mary age 57 and child Albert 19, all from Switzerland.
