In search of Edith & Liselotte Unterweger

German: Pankota, Official: Pâncota, Romania [36km NE of Arad], Hungarian: Pancota, other: Pîncota

On September 26, 2005, I wrote to Helga Pless, the Pankota H.O.G., chairman of the village representing the Germans who lived there and inquired about the Unterweger family.  She replied October 5:

Dear Jody,

Thanks for your interest in our German Pankota community members.  Sorry for the delayed answer due to my holidays. Unfortunately, we do not have the Unterweger family in our address list . . . What I know is that Edith Unterweger lived in Arad (the city near Pankota) and that Liselotte (Lilo) lives in Germany (In Günzburg) for many years. She married a Scherer. On searching this name in Günzburg I received a lot of results but not with the first name Liselotte Scherer (unfortunately, I am not aware of her husbands first name).  I tried to find Edith Unterweger in Arad, it seems that she does not anymore live there.  Sorry for not being able to give you detailed information. Nevertheless, I will continue with searching and inform you accordingly.

Alex Leeb translated the Letter from Irma Unterweger dated 24 April 1960, from this we now know Dieter and Gerhard were the grandchildren of Josef and Irma, the children of one of the daughters - or - one from each daughter, Liselotte and Edith. 

Reflecting Helga's information (regarding the daughters)  Liselotte (Lilo) married a Scherer and lives in Günzburg Germany.  She did not know Edith's married name.  I will search for a Dieter and Gerhard with the last name Scherer.
