Back in Mehala,
Hungary
Our cousin Axente in Germany gave me this photo, he had brought it from Romania. This is the earliest known photo
of Elisabeth & the children. From the left... Katie
was about 13, Uncle John in next to the oldest,
about 12. Notice John and Martin 7 wore
similar outfits, while young Anton, 18 months old,
wore a dress, typical for that period.

Ingrisch Family,
taken in
the US circa 1917
Two more children were born in the US.
The above group photo was made circa 1917, Elisabeth was pregnant with Margaret. A
year & a half later, my Great Grandmother Elisabeth died. Story I heard was she was hit in
the stomach by a washing machine crank, then cancer was discovered.
Katie in back
Ingrisch was
changed to Engrisch after they immigrated to the US. Most all vital
records reflect Engrisch.
Papa was a carpenter by trade and built
furniture. After settling in Atlanta, Ga., Martin worked for Krueger Makers of Fine
Furniture. After Elizabeth died, Papa was left with the care of all their children to
Papa. Unlike in the Banat, when a wife died, the man married soon there after, in the US,
I don't think it was that easy to find a new mate here in the states. Luckily one of the older
daughters, Elizabeth (Lizzie) took care of the children still at home, one was still a baby.
Tough times, but the women held the family together.
Traveling
to the US with Martin was Elisabeth's brother Anton Marmon's
wife, Suzanne Marmon & her baby Marie. Baby Marie died soon after
arriving. There is no
info known about Susanne, except on her death
certificate it states her father as Mihaly Kedro/Hedro?
The spelling is not clear.
